Stony Brook University Student Chapter

The Stony Brook University Chapter of the Friends of Fire Island National Seashore (FFINS-SBU) was officially established as student organization in the fall of 2012. Stony Brook University has a diverse student body comprised of local and international students. Our members represent a diversity of majors, including psychology, applied math and statistics, sustainability, biology, and marine sciences.

The founders include Helen Tsoi, Wendy Zheng, Holly Thompson, and Cara Lin. Our Stony Brook University faculty advisers are Dr. Marvin O’Neal, who serves on the FFINS board, and Dr. Malcolm Bowman.

The mission of FFINS Stony Brook University is to provide opportunities for students to get outdoors, enjoy nature, promote environmental stewardship, and support our local national seashore and FFINS parent group.
